Snap June General Election Called

On 19th of April Theresa May won backing from parliament for a snap general election on June 8th 2017.

We thought it was odd because the next general election should have been in 2020.

But the conservatives are in such a strong position that they hope to increase their number of MP’s, which could be risky as nobody knows what people will vote.

To find out why the main political parties think you should vote for them and what they are promising to do, please click here

101 Donations! (We wish…)

You may remember we recently told you of our plan to raise some funds through our very own collection pots.

Pots

The good news is we have had three pots accepted by three kind supporters.

Our thanks then to Dave and Alicia Roberts at Hereford Fire Protection Service, and the managers at Wye Leisure in Fownhope and at the Wye Inn, which is just round the corner from us at St. Martins.

If you would like to host a collection pot or know of a public venue that might take one please contact us

Not Special Needs

On March 21st it was World Down Syndrome Day. I saw a video made by people with down syndrome asking if they had ‘special needs’ or just ‘human needs’.

I thought it was good that the video challenged the idea that people with disabilities have ‘special needs’  The people in the video said they needed ‘education, jobs, opportunities, friends and some love’.

You can see the video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNMJaXuFuWQ

Let us know what you think. Do people with disabilities have different needs to everybody else?

Boxing clever!

Our News Our Views are always looking for new ways to raise funds to help produce future editions. Our latest idea is to put collection boxes in public venues like Leisure Centres and Pubs.

We have bought some eye catching yellow boxes and designed our own label to go on them. We hope to start getting them into venues in the week or so.Here’s Lisa with some of the pots.

We’d love to hear from you to see what you think about this idea or if you have any suggestions where we can place one of our boxes.

Working hard in 2017…

The New Year is well under way and so is the hard work at Our News Our Views. We’ve spent this morning  planning our work for the year, looking at fundraising and getting the next edition ready for printing – it’s our deadline day next week.

The really good news is that Mary is back with us, having been off at the end of 2016 after breaking her leg. She’s well on the way to full recovery, if still struggling a bit to get around!

We hope you enjoy Our News Our Views this year and thank you for your interest and support.
